BALTIMORE (AP) - A Baltimore District Court judge is accused of neglecting eight years of paperwork, ordering records destroyed and behaving with contempt toward colleagues on the bench.

The Baltimore Sun reported Thursday that investigators for the Maryland Commission of Judicial Disabilities say 51-year-old Devy Russell broke state laws requiring judges to promote confidence in the courts with diligence and courtesy. The state panel has the authority to sanction judges, including expulsion from the bench.

In a written response to the charges, Russell’s attorney Steven Silverman argued state law didn’t impose deadlines for the paperwork. He disputed her records were trashed and said investigators didn’t provide specific instances of unprofessional conduct in the complaint.
