PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Providence will host members of the Democratic National Committee to discuss the role of superdelegates in the presidential nomination process.
WPRI-TV reports the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee will hold a public meeting at the Omni Providence on Friday. An executive committee meeting is scheduled for the following day.
Party officials have wrestled with ways to reduce the role of superdelegates since the 2016 presidential election. The group overwhelmingly favored Hillary Clinton, who won the nomination, and ultimately saddled her with charges of favoritism.
The Rules and Bylaws Committee is reviewing a report issued by the Unity Reform Commission which recommended the DNC change the role of the delegates. Changes must be finalized by the end of June.
