The Capitals fans erupted at Capital One Arena when the Capitals took a 1-0 lead with 13:36 left in the second period on a goal by Jakub Vrana.
But those fans were silenced a few minutes later when Vegas tied the game at 1-1 with a goal with 10:20 left in the second.
In a roller-coaster ride of emotions, the D.C. fans were joyous when Alexander Ovechkin scored on an amazing angle from the left side for a 2-1 edge with 9:46 left in the second period.
Those emotions took another hit when Las Vegas tied the game, even after a video review, with 7:04 remaining in the eventful second period. The Golden Knights took a 3-2 lead into the third period after a goal in the closing seconds of the second period.

“Las Vegas, they matched the intensity of the Capitals,” said fan Zack Wilson, 22, who lives in the Ballston section of Arlington.
Natasha Cloud of the Washington Mystics, who lost earlier in the evening at home to Minnesota, addressed the crowd with “Let’s Go Caps!” during a break in play late in the second period.
