RED BLUFF, Calif. (AP) - Police in Northern California say officers fatally shot an armed suspect, prompting the lockdown of a nearby community college.
Tehama County Assistant Sheriff Phil Johnson said Wednesday that a 34-year-old Los Molinos man was shot twice after leveling a rifle at officers.
Johnson said the man’s girlfriend called 911 to report the man was armed and suicidal. He was located just south of the Shasta Community College campus in Red Bluff, about 130 miles (210 kilometers) north of Sacramento.

Johnson said deputies negotiated with the man for about 45 minutes and he urged deputies to shoot him. They did not release the man’s name.
Classes at the community college were canceled for the day. No other injuries were reported.
