The Washington Redskins will present Super Bowl rings to their 1987 replacement players on June 12 at the team’s facility in Ashburn, the team announced Tuesday.
In 1987, the Redskins went 3-0 with a team of replacements during the players union’s 24-day strike. Washington eventually won the Super Bowl, but the replacement players did not receive rings.
The Redskins announced their plans to honor the group in March. Team president Bruce Allen presented the news to quarterback Tony Robinson and defensive lineman Anthony Sagnella at the Virginia General Assembly.
Former general manager Charley Casserly will be in attendance for the ceremony, along with the replacement players.
The rings will be furnished by Baron Rings and Uptown Diamond.
