PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) - A jury has found a former Colorado sheriff’s detective accused of mishandling evidence from an unsolved murder guilty of three out of four charges.
The Pueblo Chieftain reports the apparent evidence was discovered in December 2016 inside a storage unit that had been previously owned by former Fremont County deputy Robert Dodd.
The items were suspected to be evidence linking a suspect to the area where Candace Hiltz was brutally gunned down in 2006.

Dodd was found guilty of misdemeanor abuse of public records and two petty counts of second-degree official misconduct on Thursday. The jury found him innocent of a fourth charge.
Dodd’s lawyer, Randy Jorgensen, says Dodd was reckless and should have known better, but that doesn’t make him a criminal.
Dodd’s sentencing is set for July 23.
