COURTLAND, Miss. (AP) - Investigators in one north Mississippi County are looking for thieves who have been riding all-terrain vehicles to break into cars at night.

WHBQ-TV reports that at least two dozen vehicles in a rural area of southern Panola County have been burglarized in the last month. Riding four-wheelers may allow thieves to escape undetected across fields and back roads.

Resident Dexter Johnson says he heard an increase in four-wheeler traffic about the time the burglaries began, but didn’t realize some of the riders could be thieves. Investigators are having a hard time distinguishing between nighttime joyriders and suspects.
