ELIZABETH, N.J. (AP) - Prosecutors say they will recommend a 20-year sentence when a New Jersey man is sentenced in August in a shooting that wounded a man earlier this year and a gun battle with a police detective.

The Union County prosecutor’s office said Tuesday that 28-year-old Junus Ellison pleaded guilty late last week to three counts of first-degree attempted murder as well as aggravated assault and weapons offenses.

Authorities said Ellison fired four shots at a 24-year-old man on a Plainfield porch April 4, wounding him in the leg, and then fired multiple rounds at the vehicle of arriving police detectives.

Prosecutors said one of the detectives pursued him on foot, and the suspect fired at him repeatedly and the detective returned fire. Neither was struck and other responding officers captured Ellison.
