House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy slammed Rep. Maxine Waters on Monday for her speech calling for private citizens to “push out” members of the Trump administrations in public.
The Republican congressman said during an interview on Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” that his fellow California lawmaker “should apologize to the American public” for her “very dangerous” rhetoric.
“What’s interesting to me is that the people who claim tolerance seem to be the most intolerant,” Mr. McCarthy said.
He also called for House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi to denounce Ms. Waters’ statements.
“If you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere,” Ms. Waters said Saturday during a rally in Los Angeles.
