PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona judge ordered a legislative committee to tweak language describing a ballot measure.

The Citizens Clean Elections Commission sued members of the state’s Legislative Council over its description of a ballot measure that would add additional oversight to the commission. It was concerned the summary wasn’t impartial.

Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Christopher Coury on Monday ruled that most of the description was lawful. But he also told the council to add language that emphasizes the commission’s current independent status.

The language will be used in informational voter pamphlets. The chair of the council, Speaker of the House J.D. Mesnard, said it does not plan to appeal and will meet to make the recommended changes.
