New York gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon secured an endorsement from the Democratic Socialists of America this weekend.
On Sunday afternoon, the New York chapter of the DSA announced their support for Ms. Nixon and Jumaane Williams, a candidate for lieutenant governor of New York.
The two self-proclaimed democratic socialists recently endorsed each other as well.
“Cynthia Nixon and Jumaane Williams are the best chance we have to win universal rent control, medicare for all and many other priorities for working people in New York. We look forward to working with them to bring the needs and dreams of everyday New Yorkers to Albany,” co-chair of NYC DSA Abdullah Yonus said in a statement.
“I’m proud to receive the @nycDSA’s endorsement and look forward to working with members to knock on doors and organize for single payer, rent control, and justice for all,” the former “Sex and the City” actress responded on Twitter.

Ms. Nixon has targeted the Immigration Customs Enforcement agency in her campaign as a vocal proponent of the “Abolish ICE” movement.
The DSA gained national attention after the stunning win of democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez over Rep. Ted Crowley, a long-time congressman.
Recent polls show Ms. Nixon down about 35 points compared to incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
