ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A Michigan man on trial for the fatal stabbing of another man in Albuquerque has been convicted of murder.
A jury found Ameer Muhammad guilty Friday of first-degree murder and armed robbery, guaranteeing him a mandatory life sentence.
Prosecutors say Ameer, of Flint, stabbed 30-year-old Aaron Sieben in March 2017 near an Albuquerque gas station. He took the victim’s wallet before running from the scene.

The case against Muhammad also sparked a New Mexico Supreme Court ruling on pre-trial detentions.
The court ruled defendants cannot be held and denied bail because they are accused of a crime that would have qualified for capital punishment.
New Mexico abolished the death penalty in 2009.
Muhmmad is scheduled for sentencing on Sept. 25.
