WALTERBORO, S.C. (AP) - A former police officer in South Carolina avoided time behind bars after admitting she took thousands of dollars and at least three guns from her department’s evidence locker.
Solicitor Duffie Stone said 49-year-old ex-Walterboro police officer Stephanie Bridge won’t have to serve a three-year sentence in prison if she successfully completes three years of probation.
An affidavit from the State Law Enforcement Division said Bridge was the lone person in charge of the evidence locker and a routine audit requested by the new police chief in 2014 found around $11,000 and at least three guns missing.
