SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Two former detention officers have been indicted in a scheme to smuggle methamphetamine to inmates in a Texas jail.

In an indictment unsealed Thursday, a federal grand jury in San Antonio charged 29-year-old Gabriel Robert Ortiz and 26-year-old Ruben Hernandez on multiple counts, including conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Bexar (BAYR) County Sheriff Javier (hahv-YEHR’) Salazar said the agency had received information that the two deputies may have been involved in illegal activity and authorities set up a “sting operation” within the jail.
