ROCKLAND, Maine (AP) - A district attorney in Maine announced on Wednesday that he is reviewing convictions that involved a police officer dubbed “dishonest” by a judge.

Knox County District Attorney Jonathan Liberman said that closed cases will be reviewed to determine if they need to be reopened, in light of accusations against former Rockland Officer Jacob Shirey. Liberman said active cases also will be reviewed.

Justice Daniel Billings wrote in a ruling dismissing a drunken-driving charge that the case was “tainted by a dishonest officer.”

Shirey left the department after what Liberman described as an investigation into concerns about his professionalism and honesty. He said attorneys in pending cases that depend on Shirey’s testimony have been alerted about the concerns.

“The integrity of convictions obtained by our office is of the utmost importance,” Liberman said in a statement.

The Associated Press couldn’t find a phone number for Shirey, and he didn’t answer a message left with a family member.
