As expected, pitcher Stephen Strasburg and first baseman Ryan Zimmerman came off the disabled list on Friday for the third-place Washington Nationals.
Strasburg, slated to start at home Friday against Atlanta, went on the 10-day disabled list June 10 with right shoulder inflammation. He is 6-6 in 13 starts with an ERA of 3.46 this season, with 95 strikeouts and just 19 walks.
Zimmerman, who is not in the starting lineup Friday, went on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right oblique on May 12 and was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on June 30. He is hitting .217 with five homers and 16 RBI in 33 games.
To make room for Strasburg and Zimmerman, pitcher Wanda Suero was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse while pitcher Trevor Gott had been sent to Syracuse on Sunday.
Suero is 1-0 in 16 games with an ERA of 3.15 this year for the Nationals.
The Nationals entered Friday 48-48 and were 5.5 games back of first-place Philadelphia (543-42) and five games back of second-place Atlanta (52-42) in the National League East.
The team was working out on the field around 3 p.m. Friday at Nationals Park before beginning a series against the Atlanta Braves at 7:05 p.m.
