Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said Tuesday she was in “stunned belief” watching President Trump’s “un-American, outrageous, ridiculous, stupid” performance with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Helsinki summit the day before.

Mr. Trump was “bending” to Mr. Putin’s wishes by not standing up for the U.S. and its intelligence agencies, she said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

She also warned that Mr. Putin’s experience as a KBG agent made him better at propaganda and lying than anyone.

“I think Trump is the gift that keeps giving to Putin,” Ms. Albright said.

Ms. Albright said she could not imagine how the president’s meetings with his advisers went after the summit.

“Somebody needs to make it clear to Trump that his behavior in that press conference was un-American, outrageous, ridiculous, stupid,” she said, “I can’t even think of all the adjectives that I think should really be attributed to that behavior.”

Ms. Albright emphasized that Mr. Trump helped Mr. Putin. She said the Russian leader was aiming to divide Western democratic allies and strengthen his position around the world, and Mr. Trump contributed to that.

“One has to push back, not just agree, ‘Oh you’re so smart’ and ‘Thank you so much for helping’, and a variety of other things that are unacceptable for an American president to say ever,” she said.

Ms. Albright served as secretary of state under former President Bill Clinton.
