Rep. Ron DeSantis announced Friday that he plans to run for governor of Florida and already has the support of President Trump.

“With the support of the president, I’m in a position to exercise the leadership that can build on the great work [current Gov.] Rick Scott has done to advance economic opportunity, reform education and drain the swamp in Tallahassee,” Mr. DeSantis, Florida Republican, said on Fox News.

Mr. Trump tweeted a few weeks ago that Mr. DeSantis would make a “great” governor and is “a true fighter.”

Mr. DeSantis is a former Navy lawyer who made a name for himself recently by questioning special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into collusion claims between the president and Russian officials.

He has been rumored as a likely candidate since current Mr. Scott is term-limited.
