Sen. Heidi Heitkamp said Monday that President Trump isn’t part the problem in coming together to pass a bill to fund the government.

“The Senate has to get its house in order and the Senate has to get a plan,” Ms. Heitkamp, North Dakota Democrat, said on CNN.

She said that lawmakers have to focus on working together and not pointing fingers at the other side for the sake of winning an argument in the court of public opinion.

“The American public wants us to work together,” Ms. Heitkamp said. “Anything that divides us at this point, that does not offer a constructive path forward, is white noise.”

Lawmakers will meet again today to try and come together on a spending bill after failing to reach an agreement before Friday’s deadline. Talks continued over the weekend, but failed to reach a consensus.
