House Speaker Paul D. Ryan said Friday that lawmakers could come to a deal on DACA soon, but they need to pass this funding bill to move ahead with the process.

“The bill that we passed, they support it. The CHIP extension bill, the Democrats support that. Keeping the government funded, the Democrats support that,” Mr. Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, said on Fox News when discussing the funding plan.

“There is nothing in the bill that House passed yesterday, not a single thing, that the Democrats oppose,” he explained.

He said that if Senate Democrats can get on board to support the latest funding bill, then lawmakers can reach a deal on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals — known as DACA recipients — and avoid a government shutdown.

Negotiations on immigration were derailed after President Trump said he would not support the bipartisan proposal on immigration last week. Democrats vowed not to support a funding bill until DACA protections were put in place, but the deadline to pass a spending measure is Friday at midnight. If they fail to reach an agreement, then the government will shutdown.
