CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia’s attorney general says a contractor who was paid $73,500 for a public works job that hasn’t begun has been charged with obtaining money under false pretenses.
A grand jury indictment alleges Jonathan Blake Comer, who was doing business as Jon Comer Construction LLC, was hired by the Greenbrier County Solid Waste Authority to upgrade its recycling drop-off and storage building.
A call to the business was not immediately returned.
According to the attorney general’s office, the project received a $150,000 grant from the state Department of Environmental Protection. As construction wasn’t done, the authority has to repay the money to the DEP.
The attorney general’s office investigated. The Greenbrier County Prosecutor’s Office is handling the prosecution.
