A former MTV personality blamed the Florida school shooting on the parents of the accused gunman who put him up for adoption rather than aborting him.
In a tweet Thursday, Becky Griffin said the massacre is evidence that legalized abortion is sound public policy.
Woman puts baby up for adoption, he grows up to be a violent young man who will spend the rest of his life in prison for a mass murder. Tell me more about how abortions are wrong. #Florida #ParklandSchoolShooting

Nikolas Cruz is charged with killing 17 students and staff members Wednesday in an attack on Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, from which he was expelled last year.
Ms. Griffin justified her stance that he should have been aborted by pointing out that he suffers from a mental illness.
Mental illness is genetic. So if the shooter was mentally ill — guess where it came from? The parents who were unfit to raise him.

She also shared an academic journal article co-authored by Steven Levitt, a University of Chicago economist, that suggests the legalization of abortion nationwide in 1973 helps explain why the crime rate in America declined dramatically approximately two decades later. Mr. Levitt later popularized the theory in “Freakonomics.”
Economists critical of the theory point out that crime rates skyrocketed in the late ’80s and early ’90s before plummeting, which does not track perfectly with the timeline posited by Mr. Levitt.
The theory that abortion cuts crime also fails to account for declining rates of crime in countries with different abortion policies, social scientists have argued.
