TIVERTON, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island’s attorney general says a Tiverton police officer who shot an armed man earlier this year was justified in using deadly force and no criminal charges will be filed.

Attorney General Peter Kilmartin on Wednesday announced the findings of the investigation into the nonfatal shooting of Scott Banville by Lt. Scott Beaulieu on April 4 at Banville’s home during a domestic violence call.

The investigation found Beaulieu was justified because Banville threatened the lives of his wife and police officers by pointing a loaded .50-caliber rifle at them. The report says Beaulieu fired two shots through a window and struck Banville in the right shoulder.
