Before Kirk Cousins ended up signing with the Minnesota Vikings, the quarterback turned down a serious amount of money.

In a recently released documentary about his free agency, Cousins told his wife Julie that the New York Jets offered a three-year, $90 million contract, fully guaranteed — surpassing the three-year, $84 million deal he accepted with the Vikings.

In the clip below, Cousins said the Vikings were his preference, but they needed to raise their offer from $25 million annually. The two parties later settled at $28 million per year.

In hindsight, the Jets might be perfectly OK with Cousins’ decision — as the franchise drafted promising quarterback Sam Darnold instead.
