BIRMKINGHAM, Ala. (AP) - Police have arrested a man in the shooting death of an Alabama woman at her apartment earlier this week.

Birmingham police told news outlets Tuesday night that 28-year-old Cameron Jamer Cook has been charged with capital murder in the shooting.

The victim in Sunday’s shooting was identified as 55-year-old Denise Fassel.

Police have not released a motive or the relationship between the two but previously said they did not think the shooting was random.

Police say Cook forced his way into the woman’s apartment and shot her. Police think Cook then tried to rob a discount store and then stole a vehicle.

Cook was arrested Monday outside a Birmingham motel. He’s being held in the Jefferson County jail. It was not known if he has an attorney.
