RICHMOND — D.J. Swearinger faked a punch toward Terrelle Pryor on Tuesday — causing the New York Jets wide receiver to flinch. But the beef didn’t end there.

Swearinger told reporters afterward he told Pryor that Washington didn’t have enough respect for the former Redskins receiver to match him against a cornerback in one-on-one drills.

“He went against safeties three days in a row,” Swearinger said. “I got him one day, [DeShazor Everett] got him one day, Montae [Nicholson] got him one day. We didn’t give him the respect to get a cornerback. We gave him safeties to go against and we locked him up.”

Pryor did not speak to reporters after practice. On Monday, he said he wasn’t focused on his time with the Redskins. The 29-year-old spent the 2017 season with Washington and it did not go well. Pryor had only 20 catches in nine games before opting for season-ending foot surgery.

The Redskins-Jets joint practices were highly anticipated, in part, because of Pryor’s return. Linebacker Zach Brown told a local radio station that “the boys are going to have it out for him” and Pryor and that coach Jay Gruden couldn’t protect him any longer.

While Pryor did not get into a fight with anyone on the Redskins, he did have several confrontations. On Sunday, he got into a brief verbal altercation with cornerback Josh Norman and then on Tuesday, exchanged words with Swearinger.

The clip of Swearinger and Pryor went viral and as of this writing had 1.7 million views.

The Redskins could have also been upset that Pryor uploaded a clip on Twitter of himself hauling in a one-handed catch against them in practice.

Pryor, meanwhile, will not play against the Redskins on Thursday when the two teams meet at FedEx Field.
