TORRINGTON, Conn. (AP) - A plea deal for a Connecticut man charged with murder has fallen through.
The Republican-American reports that Michael Calabrese sought to have a judge accept his belief that his conviction hinges on a controversial recorded jailhouse confession that could be overturned by an appellate court.
But the judge ruled Tuesday in Torrington Superior Court that the case against Calabrese does not hinge solely on his alleged confession.

The judge previously rejected the defense’s arguments that Calabrese’s rights were violated when he was recorded by another prisoner allegedly confessing to the killing of 23-year-old Luke Vitalis in a robbery gone wrong in Sharon in 2012.
Calabrese previously acknowledged the state has enough evidence to convict him in being willing to accept a no contest plea.
