MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Republican Gov Phil Scott has joined a bipartisan group of governors urging U.S. Senate leaders not to take up the latest push to repeal the “Obamacare” health care law.
The plan sponsored by Republican Sens. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana would undo the central pillars of former President Barack Obama’s affordable care act.
In the letter to Senate leaders Tuesday, the 10 governors reject the plan and urge support of “bipartisan efforts to bring stability and affordability” to insurance markets.
The Times Argus reports (https://bit.ly/2wHhSUN) that Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent, called the proposal a “cruel bill” and Sen. Patrick Leahy, a Democrat, said it was “another move backward, not forward.”
Senate Republicans defeated an effort earlier this year to repeal Obama’s law.
