NEW LONDON, Conn. (AP) - A 30-year-old man accused of fatally shooting his cousin in Connecticut has been ordered to undergo a mental evaluation to see if he is competent to stand trial.
The Day reports that James Armstrong appeared Tuesday in New London Superior Court. Judge Hillary Strackbein ordered the evaluation following a request from his public defender. She continued the case to Oct. 30.
Armstrong’s 31-year-old cousin, Sebastian Sidberry, was killed outside of his North Stonington home in April. Both are members of the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation.

Armstrong was extradited from Missouri last month and is being held at the Garner Correctional Institution, which houses people with mental health problems.
Family members told state police during the investigation that Armstrong had been declining mentally over the last few years.
