6 years in prison for fatally choking father

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) - A man accused of fatally choking his father has been sentenced to six years in prison in Eau Claire County Circuit Court.

Cody Kohls said he choked his father in self-defense in December 2016 following an argument at their Fall Creek home. Before he called 911, prosecutors say Kohls sent a Snapchat photo of his unconscious father.

WQOW -TV says Kohls apologized and pleaded for leniency during his sentencing Monday. The defense said a risk assessment shows Kohls has a low chance of re-offending. Judge Michael Schumacher also sentenced Kohls to six years of extended supervision following his release from prison.
