TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - The Florida Legislative Black Caucus is demanding President Donald Trump’s administration apologize to a fallen soldier’s family and U.S. Rep. Frederica Wilson for a condolence call that provoked insults.
Caucus members said Tuesday Wilson was treated with disrespect by Trump, Chief of Staff John Kelly and spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Trump has called Wilson “wacky,” Kelly said she’s an “empty barrel” and Sanders that Wilson was “all hat and no cattle.” Wilson is known for wearing colorful hats.
The insults began after Trump told the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson that he “knew what he signed up for.”
Wilson, a member of the legislature and Black Caucus member before her U.S. House election, heard the call on speakerphone.
On Twitter, Trump recently defended the call, saying he was “respectful.”
