FAISON, N.C. (AP) - The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a sheriff’s deputy was injured when he was hit by a car while directing traffic.

The patrol told local media outlets that Duplin County sheriff’s deputy Phillip Jones was directing traffic around a school bus which had broken down outside of Faison on Wednesday when he was hit by a car driven by a man taking his children to school.

Troopers said the driver slowed down when he saw the school bus, but didn’t see the deputy. The patrol said Jones was knocked onto an embankment. He’s listed in good condition at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
