Teen sentenced for shooting father

EDENSBURG, Pa. (AP) - A Pennsylvania teen has been sentenced to 1 ½ to three years for shooting his father.

The Tribune-Democrat reports 16-year-old Jamil Branche, of Johnstown, was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to one count of felony aggravated assault and one count of firearms not to be possessed without a license in July.

Police say Branche shot his father, Weldon Branche, earlier this year after what witnesses describe as a confrontation. Weldon Branche was taken to a hospital and treated for injuries after the shooting.

Weldon Branche says he loves his son but he needs “to understand he made a mistake.”

An attorney representing Jamil Branche says her client will complete his education during his incarceration or upon his release.
