OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A teenager accused of attacking his parents before shooting at Douglas County sheriff’s deputies will be tried in juvenile court.
The Omaha World-Herald says a judge issued that ruling Tuesday. The Associated Press generally does not name juveniles charged with crimes.
Authorities say the 17-year-old fired on deputies Sept. 3 when the deputies responded to the boy’s Waterloo home. Deputy John McFarland was hit by shotgun pellets and treated and released from a hospital the same day. The teen underwent surgery and lost a kidney after being shot by one of the deputies who returned fire.
