SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a hiker in distress who was plucked from a Southern California mountain by a sheriff’s helicopter crew later died at a hospital.

Officials say two fellow hikers performed CPR on the man prior to the rescue Sunday from about 10,000 feet in the San Bernardino Mountains.

A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department helicopter used an 85-foot hoist to rescue the man, who was flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reported Monday (https://bit.ly/2r7dRcF ) that officials did not immediately release a cause of death for the victim, described only as a 45-year-old man.
