Sen. Joe Manchin said Wednesday that he’d like President Trump to stop tweeting while they get to the bottom of whatever is going on.
“I’d urge my president, our president, lay off the tweets for a while and let’s get back to work,” Mr. Manchin, West Virginia Democrat, said on Fox News.
Mr. Manchin also said former FBI Director James B. Comey may not have released his memos concerning former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn because there was an ongoing investigation.
“I’m not a legal authority. I can only tell you when I was governor, if there’s ongoing investigations, you don’t talk about it with anybody,” he said. “The intelligence committee will get the facts. We’ll get the facts and go from there.”
Mr. Manchin said on MSNBC that the president doubting the intelligence community, however, it will make finding the truth more difficult for them.
“If the leader of the free world doesn’t believe this is accurate, factual or their doing the job they should be doing it’s hard for them to be able to get that communication and basically be able to be accepted as the people they are,” he said.
“The president of the United States has to understand that the intelligence community has kept us safe from having the biggest target on our back in the world and they have done this in under extraordinary conditions around the world.”
