Just in time for the unofficial kickoff to summer, a new survey finds Washingtonians are in one of the best places in the country to relax while staying right at home.
Washington, D.C., is the third best city in the country in which to “staycation,” according to travel site RewardExpert.com. Pittsburgh — a mere five hours away by car away — came in second place. Minneapolis, Minnesota, took top honors.
The nation’s capital is tops in the “arts and culture” category, third in “enjoying the outdoors” and fifth out of the 100 cities surveyed for sports and activities opportunities.
“Our research finds that a great staycation city balances a relaxing, affordable environment while still offering a breadth of entertainment options,” RewardExpert CEO Roman Shteyn said in a company news release.
A similar survey by RewardExpert released earlier this month found Washington, D.C., the fifth-best U.S. vacation destination for families with young kids. Washington earned top honors in the museums-for-kids category.
