A new Quinnipiac University poll shows a near-historic low approval rating for President Trump.

Only 36 percent currently approve of the job Mr. Trump is doing as president, compared to 40 percent in late April. His lowest approval rating was earlier in April at 35 percent.

But what should be more distressing for Mr. Trump and his administration is that they seem to be losing support among their core supporters: white voters.

Mr. Trump saw a 10 point drop in support among white voters without a college degree. Only 47 percent approve of the job he’s doing as president, compared to 57 percent in late April.

Another group that dropped off in support is white males.

White men have been Mr. Trump’s base of support, with 53 percent approving of the job he’s doing as president back in April. That number went down 5 points in May to 48 percent approving and 46 percent disapproving.

Also distressing for Mr. Trump and all Republicans is that American voters want Democrats to control the House of Representatives in a generic ballot test 54-38 percent. This is the widest margin ever measured by the poll.
