HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (AP) - A Hot Springs man accused of abusing his girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter has been ordered to serve a decade in prison.

Prosecutors allege 48-year-old Clarence Eugene Reed used zip ties to bind the girl to furniture and spanked her with a wooden paddle.

Reed pleaded guilty Tuesday to domestic battery and endangering the welfare of a minor.

The girl’s mother faces the same charges, along with a charge of permitting child abuse. She’s expected in court next week.

Police records show the couple was arrested in August after the Arkansas Department of Human Services and a child advocacy agency determined the girl had been abused. Both remained in custody in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Prosecutors say custody of the girl and some of her siblings was granted to her biological father.
