ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A ground, air and water search is underway for a southwest Alaska man missing on a seal hunting trip.

Alaska State Troopers say 59-year-old Tom John of Newtok (NOO-tahk) is missing.

John left the village at about 10 a.m. Sunday.

Ground searchers found his vehicle and equipment early Monday afternoon on the edge of sea ice.

John and his red and yellow one-person kayak have not been found.

Troopers in Bethel say the search is being aided by the Rescue Coordination Center, the Civil Air Patrol, the Coast Guard and village search parties.

Newtok is a Bering Sea village of 370 about 94 miles northwest of Bethel.
