CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Two men have been sentenced to life in prison after killing a drug dealer in a robbery arranged over another dealer’s cellphone.

Federal prosecutors said Thursday in a news release that 37-year-old Carlos Benson and 36-year-old Jacob Hill were both convicted felons who should not have firearms when they killed 26-year-old Darrell Hames in Charlotte in November 2014.

Authorities say Benson and Hill robbed a different drug dealer, ordering that man to call his cocaine supplier and arrange a meeting.

Prosecutors say Benson pointed a gun at Hames and they shot at each other. Hames was killed and Benson was wounded, but recovered. Authorities say Hill was a lookout.

Both men were convicted of nine charges and won’t be eligible for parole.
