SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) - A Springfield man who stabbed another man in the face, neck and abdomen at a house party in 2015 has been sentenced to 5 ½ years in prison.
The Republican newspaper (https://bit.ly/2mU1BYt ) reports that 34-year-old Angel Carmona was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty to assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury. Charges of mayhem and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon were dropped as part of a plea agreement. He was given credit for the 20 months he has already spent behind bars awaiting trial.
Prosecutors say Carmona and the victim got into a fight at a party in the early morning hours of July 19, 2015. The victim thought he was engaged in a fistfight, but Carmona took out a sharp object stabbed him.
