ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A 51-year-old Anchorage man has been charged with first-degree murder, arson and evidence tampering in a fatal fire.

Jimmy Dale Cates is charged in the January death of 57-year-old Peijun Li.

Her body was found inside a burned apartment on west 23rd Avenue.

Cates turned himself in to police Tuesday. Online court documents do not list his attorney.

Firefighters early Jan. 24 battled a fire in the four-unit apartment building. Police say Li had been strangled and that she had suffered smoke inhalation.

Investigators determined fires had been set inside the apartment and just outside the building.

Police say video surveillance captured images of Cates at a gas station two hours before the fire and at the apartment building at the time of the crime.
