PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona House panel has approved a proposal requiring regular reviews of more than $12 billion in exemptions in the current sales tax code.
The vote on Senate Bill 1144 came a week after the same panel rejected the proposal from Democrat Steve Farley of Tucson and Republican David Farnsworth of Mesa.
Farley says more than 330 current tax breaks for specific businesses or transactions are creating an uneven playing field and starving the state of needed revenue. He’s agreed to remove construction taxes from the proposal and to address workload concerns.
