PHOENIX (AP) - Former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords will be in Phoenix on Thursday to continue pushing for stronger gun control measures.

Giffords and her husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly, will join with state leaders to announce a new bipartisan coalition called the Arizona Coalition for Common Sense.

The coalition’s members include gun owners, veterans, law enforcement officials, domestic violence prevention advocates, educators, faith leaders, and business leaders.

They are urging elected officials to advance policies that help keep guns out of the wrong hands.

Giffords, Kelly and the business leaders also will hold a roundtable discussion on the impact of gun violence on Arizona’s communities.

Giffords was gravely injured by a gunman at a public event in Tucson in 2011. Six people died and Giffords was among 13 injured in the attack.
