CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) - The administrator of a nonprofit that provided mental health services to Camden’s poor has admitted embezzling more than $40,000.

Maria Tavera on Friday pleaded guilty in federal court to embezzling from a health care benefit program.

Prosecutors say the 53-year-old took money from Nueva Vida Behavioral Health Center of New Jersey and used it for personal expenses.

Tavera faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine when she’s sentenced in September.
