STOCKBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) - A western Massachusetts school district has settled a lawsuit brought by three women who said they were sexually assaulted by a counselor when they were in elementary school.
A lawyer for the women, now in their 20s, tells The Berkshire Eagle (https://bit.ly/2sQV2vb ) that the settlement ends the lawsuit filed against the Berkshire Hills Regional School District in 2016.
Terms of the settlement were not disclosed, but the original lawsuit sought $4.5 million in damages.
Berkshire Hills Superintendent Peter Dillon declined comment.
The women said Scott Muir assaulted them from 2003 until 2006 when he worked as a student support center coordinator at a now-closed Stockbridge school.
Muir denied the allegations and testified in his own defense at his 2014 criminal trial. He was acquitted of all charges.
