MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) - A southern Oregon man who fatally shot an intruder two months ago won’t face charges.
The Jackson County District Attorney’s Office said Monday that 26-year-old Christopher Haase of Rogue River acted in self-defense when he fired a single rifle shot that killed David Anthony Vaughn.
Prosecutors said Vaughn entered the mobile home and attacked Haase’s friend. He then threatened to assault Haase while moving toward him.
The Mail Tribune reports (https://is.gd/Oq3nDO ) Haase lived in one of two mobile homes on the property, while Vaughn’s father lived in another.
Oregon law allows someone to use deadly force if he or she reasonably believes the person is attempting to commit a burglary and about to use unlawful physical force.
Burglary in Oregon is entering or attempting to enter a building with the intent to commit a crime.
