RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A man who failed to report that his wife was physically abusing a child who later died has been sentenced to time already served in jail by a federal judge in the District of South Dakota.
Judge Jeffrey Viken said Wednesday that because Mitchell Wisecarver had accepted responsibility and because of his ill health, the 17 months he’s already served in jail is enough.
The Rapid City Journal (https://bit.ly/2sFJFUY ) says the 44-year-old Wisecarver earlier pleaded guilty to hiding a felony.
His wife, Lori Wisecarver, has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 2-year-old Jayden Locke. The boy died from injuries in February 2015, several months after the couple took custody of him. She will be sentenced Sept. 14.
