PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) - A judge has ordered a sanity evaluation for a Colorado man accused of throwing gas on another man and setting him on fire, causing severe burns.
The Pueblo Chieftain reports https://goo.gl/59tt2o 34-year-old Michael Scavarda, of Canon City, is facing 13 charges, including attempted murder, assault and arson. The judge ordered the evaluation Wednesday at the request of Scavarda’s attorney.
Investigators say Scavarda told them he was mad at 40-year-old Jason Crowder for telling his girlfriend that he was cheating on her.
Scavarda is accused of waking Crowder as he slept in the camper of a pickup truck March 19, throwing a cup of gasoline on him and setting him on fire.
Crowder reportedly suffered burns on 40 percent of his body.
